helpful hints: artists statements and bios

• For exhibition entries, NAWA is asking for “Artist Statements” and “Short Bios”

• The statement should be about the specific artwork you are entering, including perhaps inspiration, materials, and purpose

• The short bio should be just a few sentences about yourself and might include where you grew up, your art education (or self-taught), and/or a mentor or influence.

• Word counts of 100-200 words will limit the length, so be concise and just include what you would want jurors to see for this exhibit.

• Make sure your artwork is properly labeled with your name- use NAWA labels

• Protect your artwork completely, especially if someone other than you is delivering for you

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts BY HEART

We are invited to join the Florida Chapter in their show By Heart. Membership in the chapter is not required.

Deadline for entry: July 10, 2024

Size restriction: None

Reception: September 23, 2024

Includes Florida, South Carolina & Massachusetts Chapters

This exhibition by the National Association of Women Artists-Florida, South Carolina and Massachusetts Chapters showcases the unique perspectives and styles of women artists interpreting the theme of By Heart.

As Artists and as individuals we do many things throughout our lives as though by heart. Sometimes without thought yet intuitively because it’s so ingrained into who we are as creatives. Come see the diversity of work as we celebrate creativity and the many differing ways we create by heart.

BONUS for By Heart event!

Fran Gardner, a former university art professor and our former chapter president will be offering a creativity workshop in Valdosta, Georgia, for the days in between drop off and the reception; September 20-23, 2024 | 10am-4pm each day. Class Fee: $500. For more information and to register, click on the following link: https://turnercenter.org/fran-gardner/.

This workshop has been attended by many NAWA members and comes highly recommended. Spaces are filling fast.

We See: Creating from Verse - An Online Exhibition

Awards presented at our Annual Members Meeting in Myrtle Beach-April 28th

Writers of literature have long used art as an inspiration for their written work. In this exhibit we are turning this around and using poetry as a device to conceive a work of art. The exhibit theme encourages artists to be inspired by the poetry of South Carolina poet, Lisa Hammond. In this show, we asked our SC Chapter members to engage with Hammond’s poetry and create a visual of their experience.
